Japanese game director Hideo Kojima praises Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan.”
Kojima shared multiple posts on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, announcing that he watched “Pathaan” in IMAX.
Hideo Kojima, the acclaimed director behind games such as “Death Stranding” and “Metal Gear,” has long been known for his admiration of Bollywood cinema, a fact evident to those following his social media channels. His most recent Bollywood viewing experience was the Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer “Pathaan,” a film that had already achieved massive success upon its release earlier this year on Republic Day. Kojima, the head of Kojima Productions, has now officially joined the ranks of “Pathaan” enthusiasts.
Kojima took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle to share his excitement about watching “Pathaan” in IMAX. He confessed to feeling mentally and physically drained over the past few days and sought to recharge his “high-octane tank,” a mission that “Pathaan” proved to accomplish admirably. Kojima’s posts overflowed with his enthusiasm and the thrill of having witnessed the film’s magic.
In his remarks about “Pathaan,” Kojima exclaimed, “It was awesome! I was numb! It opened my blood vessels! It was a MAD MAX level of energy! After seeing this, I think I’ll be able to hold it for a while!” Comparing it to blockbuster franchises like “Mission Impossible” and James Bond, Kojima also drew parallels to renowned directors John Woo and S.S. Rajamouli’s “RRR,” another film he’s expressed his fondness for in the past. He even noted that “Pathaan” incorporates elements reminiscent of his own critically acclaimed games.
The film’s re-release in Japan evidently garnered applause from the local audience, reflecting their positive reception. Kojima’s most striking comment, however, was his observation that “Movies these days think too hard. This is pure entertainment film!”
Furthermore, Kojima appears to have become an ardent admirer of Bollywood’s “Badshaah,” Shah Rukh Khan himself, after experiencing “Pathaan.” In subsequent posts, he praised both Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, referring to Khan as ‘King’ and even drawing a likeness between him and the character ‘Okada-Kun’ from the manga series “OreGairu.”
Kojima’s enthusiasm for “Pathaan” is such that he intends to purchase the Blu-ray Disc and Original Soundtrack upon their release in Japan. For a genius game creator who asserts that movies make up 70% of his being, Kojima’s high recommendation speaks volumes.
As for Shah Rukh Khan, his next project, “Jawaan,” directed by Atlee Kumar and co-starring Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi, is generating significant buzz, having already sold 5 lakh tickets worth 17 crore in pre-booking, surpassing even “Pathaan’s” record.
