In a concerning incident on Monday, a blast occurred in close proximity to the Embassy of Israel in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. While no casualties or injuries have been reported, security measures have been significantly heightened in the area.
The embassy confirmed the incident, emphasizing that the Delhi Police, along with the security team, is actively investigating the situation. Two suspects, captured on CCTV near the blast site, are currently under scrutiny, and efforts are underway to track their movements and apprehend them. Delhi Police is meticulously analyzing footage from nearby cameras to reconstruct the suspects’ route to the embassy and identify potential accomplices.
A typed letter, found near the blast site and addressed to the Ambassador of the Israeli embassy, was wrapped in an Israeli flag. The letter, written in English, mentions ‘revenge’ and criticizes Israel’s actions in Gaza. A group identifying itself as “Sir Allah Resistance” has claimed responsibility for the blast.
The area was briefly cordoned off following the blast but has since been reopened. The Delhi Police has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident, collaborating with Israeli authorities to determine the cause of the explosion.
Notably, experts examining the spot found no traces of burnt explosives, leading to considerations of a “chemical explosion.” A team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also examined the site. The Israeli foreign ministry has assured cooperation with Indian counterparts in the investigative process.
Security has been further intensified around the embassy and other Israeli establishments in India. Chanakyapuri, known for housing various foreign missions, has witnessed a previous incident in 2021, where a blast damaged multiple cars. In 2012, a bomb planted under an Israeli embassy car resulted in injuries to a diplomat’s wife.
The incident comes at a time when Israeli missions worldwide are on high alert, following Israel’s declaration of war against the Palestinian terror group Hamas in response to an attack on October 7, 2022. Authorities are actively working to ensure the safety of diplomatic missions and personnel in the aftermath of this latest security breach.
