Israel Used US-Made 900 kg Bombs to Assassinate Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah
The US, a long-standing ally of Israel, has been its primary arms supplier, particularly since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war.
Israel used American-made guided bombs in the airstrike in Beirut that killed Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, according to a report by Reuters citing a US senator. Mark Kelly, chair of the Senate Armed Services Airland Subcommittee, confirmed that 2,000-lb (900-kg) Mark 84 series bombs, also known as bunker-busters, struck Hezbollah’s headquarters.
Kelly noted that the bombs, converted into guided weapons with JDAMs (GPS-guided kits), were used to target Nasrallah. While the US has been Israel’s main arms supplier, especially since the Israel-Hamas conflict escalated on October 7, the White House stated that Israel did not inform them about the airstrike in advance. President Joe Biden only became aware of the operation once Israeli planes were airborne, according to The Guardian.
