Kurdish Regional Security Forces have captured a senior Islamic State figure, Socrates Khalil, a close confidant of former ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.

The Kurdish Regional Security Council announced in a statement on Friday that they have captured a senior Islamic State leader, Socrates Khalil. He was known to be a close confidant of the late ISIS leader, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi.

In a statement, the forces said, “After spending five years in Turkey, Khalil had returned to Kurdistan with a forged passport and was swiftly apprehended.”

Khalil used to make bombs for ISIS and was entrusted by Al-Baghdadi with major operations and security. They also stated that Khalil played a major role in the 2014 takeover of the Kurdish city of Mosul and participated in many battles against Iraqi forces and Peshmerga forces.
