Investigation indicates that the promoters of the Mahadev app gave Chhattisgarh CM Baghel ₹508 cr: ED
The ED alleges Chhattisgarh CM Baghel received ₹508 crore from Mahadev app promoters. Cash courier, benami accounts, and arrests mark the ongoing money laundering investigation.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleges that Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel received a total of ₹508 crore from the promoters of the Mahadev betting app. This information is the result of an ongoing ED investigation. The agency recently carried out raids in Chhattisgarh to investigate money laundering networks linked to the Mahadev online betting app.
During these raids, the ED discovered a cash courier named Asim Das, who had been dispatched from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with the task of delivering a large sum of money. The ED seized a total of ₹5.39 crore from Asim Das, which was discovered in both his vehicle and his residence. The agency even posted images of the large cash seizure on its social media pages. Further investigation revealed a complex network of benami bank accounts linked to the Mahadev app, totaling ₹15.59 crore. As part of the ongoing investigation, these funds have been frozen.
According to the ED, Asim Das admitted that the intercepted funds were arranged by the promoters of the Mahadev betting app to support upcoming election expenses for a prominent politician known as ‘Baghel,’ who is thought to be Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Das claimed that the promoters had previously made regular payments totaling around ₹508 crore.
The ED also arrested Police Constable Bheem Yadav, who is suspected of being a key conduit in this alleged money laundering scheme. Yadav admitted to making unauthorized trips to Dubai over the last three years and meeting with the Mahadev app’s leading promoters, Ravi Uppal and Sourabh Chandrakar. He also admitted to attending high-profile events hosted by the Mahadev app, with his travel expenses paid for by M/s Rapid Travels, a company in charge of ticketing operations for Mahadev app promoters, their families, business associates, and celebrities.
Asim Das and Bheem Yadav, a police constable, were both brought before a Special Judge in Raipur. The ED sought their interrogation to corroborate their admissions and collect evidence related to money laundering. Following that, the court remanded them to ED custody for seven days.
