Japanese astronomers have made a captivating revelation within our own solar system. They propose the existence of an Earth-like planet in the mysterious Kuiper Belt, an area that extends beyond Neptune’s orbit. This revelation raises questions about the existence of the elusive “Planet Nine” and suggests that another celestial body, potentially Earth-sized, could reside right within the Kuiper Belt.

Patryk Sofia Lykawka and Takashi Ito, the astronomers behind this discovery, shared their findings in The Astronomical Journal. According to their research, this hypothetical celestial body could be 1.5 to 3 times the size of Earth.

This revelation challenges the notion of a distant ninth planet and suggests that there might be an undiscovered celestial body hidden within our cosmic backyard, the Kuiper Belt. By studying the clustering patterns of trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs), the scientists propose that this hidden planet might be located anywhere from 200 to 500 astronomical units (AU) away from the Sun, at an inclination of approximately 30 degrees. For reference, Pluto, one of the Kuiper Belt’s dwarf planets, is currently 39 AU from Earth.

In their conclusion, the researchers emphasize that “the results of the Kuiper Belt planet scenario support the existence of a yet-undiscovered planet in the far outer Solar System.” This discovery ignites exciting possibilities for further exploration, challenging our current understanding of our solar system’s celestial dynamics.
