Chandigarh: Punjab Police on Thursday dismissed senior woman constable Amandeep Kaur, a day after she was caught with 17.71 grams of heroin. Her arrest came during the state’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, Yudh Nasheyan De Virudh, following a tip-off.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Harbans Singh Dhaliwal, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) and local police intercepted her Mahindra Thar SUV near the Badal flyover in Bathinda. “In a joint operation, we cordoned off the area and stopped a Thar. The driver identified herself as Amandeep and was accompanied by a man named Jaswant Singh. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 17.71 grams of heroin,” said DSP Dhaliwal.

At the time of her arrest, Constable Kaur was posted with Mansa Police and attached to Bathinda Police Lines. She has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Known online as “police_kaurdeep”, Amandeep Kaur had a significant social media presence with over 37,000 Instagram followers. Her reels often featured her Thar, where she appeared in uniform, sporting sunglasses, an expensive watch, and using a high-end iPhone. Many of her videos also included Punjabi tracks, especially songs by the late singer Sidhu Moosewala, for whom she frequently called for justice.

Her social media activity raised concerns, prompting a reminder from the Punjab DGP urging personnel not to post content that portrays them “modelling in uniform”.

Further controversy surrounds Kaur’s lifestyle. A woman named Gurmeet Kaur publicly questioned how the constable could afford a house worth ₹2 crore, multiple vehicles, and luxury items. In a Facebook video, Gurmeet accused Amandeep of being in a live-in relationship with her husband, Balwinder Singh, an ambulance driver. She alleged that the duo used the ambulance to traffic heroin and claimed to have reported this to the authorities earlier with no response.

Police are currently investigating the source and intended destination of the seized narcotics.
