In a significant development against Pakistan-backed terror outfits, a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu-Kashmir Police resulted in the elimination of six terrorists across two separate encounters in Kulgam and Rajouri districts.

In a successful engagement in Rajouri’s Behrot, Budhal area, security forces acted on specific intelligence, prompting a response to a targeted house where terrorists had taken refuge. The encounter ensued when the militants opened fire on the approaching security personnel. This confrontation led to the elimination of one terrorist, while the recovery of a substantial cache of arms was reported, including an AK-47, multiple magazines, grenades, and ammunition. The identity of the deceased is currently under verification, and the area has been cordoned off as security forces continue a meticulous search operation.

Simultaneously, in Nehama village, Kulgam, a prolonged 18-hour gunfight unfolded following credible intelligence about the presence of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in the area. The security forces swiftly cordoned off the suspected zone, initiating an intense encounter that resulted in the neutralization of five LeT militants. The recovered arsenal included multiple AK series rifles, pistols, grenades, and ammunition, indicating the gravity of the threat posed by these individuals. According to South Kashmir DIG Rayees, the terrorists eliminated in this operation had been involved in multiple attacks targeting minorities.

The Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V K Birdi, later confirmed the identities of the neutralized terrorists. The slain individuals were identified as Sameer Ahmad Sheikh (PAFF), Yasir Bilal Bhat, Danish Ahmad Thokar, Hanzullah Yaqoob Shah, and Ubaid Ahmad Padder (all TRF). The use of drone footage proved instrumental in locating the bodies of these terrorists, underscoring the deployment of advanced technology in counter-terrorism efforts.

The operation faced a temporary halt overnight, during which security forces maintained their position around the targeted area. However, a renewal of gunfire ensued at Samno in Nehama, Kulgam, prompting a blaze in the house where the terrorists were holed up. This compelled the militants to emerge from their hideout, leading to their neutralization.

The elimination of these terrorists, some of whom had recently joined militant ranks, represents a significant disruption to potential future attacks orchestrated by these groups. The recovery of a substantial cache of arms and ammunition underscores the ongoing commitment of Indian security forces to safeguarding peace and stability in the region.

This joint operation serves as a testament to the meticulous planning, intelligence-gathering, and swift action taken by the security forces to neutralize immediate threats posed by terrorist elements. It also showcases the resilience and commitment of Indian forces in combatting terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of the region.
