Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar embarked on a four-day visit to Vietnam, where he participated in various significant events and engagements. Here’s a summary of his visit:

Engagement in Bac Ninh Province: Jaishankar unveiled a bust of Rabindranath Tagore in Bac Ninh province of Vietnam, further strengthening the cultural ties between the two nations. He also watched a captivating performance by the Quan Ho Art Theater group and announced their upcoming participation in the 9th India International Dance and Music Festival in New Delhi. The minister interacted with the Indian community in Bac Ninh and visited the Phat Tich Pagoda Buddhist cultural center.

Visit to Phat Tich Pagoda: At the Phat Tich Pagoda, Jaishankar experienced the rich cultural and sculptural heritage of the Ly Dynasty. He met with the Most Ven. Thich Thanh Nhieu of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and discussed spirituality, yoga, art, and culture, reflecting the cultural and spiritual connections between India and Vietnam.

Arrival in Vietnam: Upon arriving in Vietnam, Jaishankar received a warm personal welcome from Vietnam’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bui Thanh Son, at the Tran Quoc Pagoda. He expressed his anticipation of co-chairing the 18th Joint Commission Meeting, emphasizing the importance of the visit.

Historical Tran Quoc Pagoda Visit: Jaishankar visited the historical Tran Quoc Pagoda in Hanoi, which holds symbolic significance in India-Vietnam relations. The Bodhi tree at the pagoda was gifted by President Rajendra Prasad to President Ho Chi Minh in 1959, symbolizing the enduring historical links between the two nations.

Official Visit to Vietnam: The visit to Vietnam was undertaken at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart, Bui Thanh Son. During his visit, Jaishankar co-chaired the 18th meeting of the India-Vietnam Joint Commission on Economic, Trade, Scientific, and Technological Cooperation. The visit provided an opportunity to review progress in several areas and explore ways to further enhance bilateral cooperation.

Upcoming Visit to Singapore: Following his visit to Vietnam, Jaishankar is scheduled to travel to Singapore on an official visit from October 19-20, strengthening India’s diplomatic engagements in the Southeast Asian region.

India and Vietnam share a robust Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and Jaishankar’s visit underscores the significance of bilateral relations and cooperation between the two nations.
