India Reports 203 New Covid-19 Cases, 4 Deaths; Delhi High Court Seeks Report from Centre

New Delhi: India has reported 203 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of active cases to 3,961. Four new deaths were also reported from Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Kerala, and Maharashtra.

The deceased individuals had underlying health conditions, including pulmonary Koch’s/post-tuberculosis lung disease, bronchial asthma, and severe acute tubular injury. A 44-year-old male in Maharashtra died due to severe ARDS with dilated aortic regurgitation and Covid-19.

The Delhi High Court has directed the central government to submit a thorough status report on its actions regarding Covid-19 sample collection, collection centers, and transportation of samples. The court emphasized the need to finalize and implement Standard Operating Procedures, noting that the “next Covid-19 pandemic is far from over.”

State Updates:

  • West Bengal reported 44 fresh cases, taking the total tally to 331.
  • Maharashtra reported 59 new cases, with 20 cases from Mumbai.
  • Odisha reported three more Covid-19 positive cases, taking the total to 15.
  • Haryana reported 18 active fresh Covid cases, with 14 cases from Gurugram, Faridabad, and Karnal districts.
  • Andhra Pradesh confirmed 38 Covid-19 cases over the last three weeks, with no new variant detected.

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed concern over the rising tally and hoped that the Centre would take timely measures to ensure complete preparedness in hospitals. Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao assured the public that there is no need to panic, while Public Health Director Nilakantha Mishra in Odisha said the situation is under control.

Ayodhya’s Rajarshi Dashrath Autonomous State Medical College conducted a mock drill and ensured all Pressure Swing Absorption (PSA) oxygen plants are in working condition. The state governments have been directed to ensure proper Covid-19 tests and prevent any situation from worsening.
