Australia Beat India by 79 runs in the Under 19 Cricket World Cup final held in Benoni, South Africa, on 11 February 2024. It was yet another devastating loss for Indian Cricket fans after the previous defeat in the World Cup Final 2023, also against Australia, by 6 wickets.

OVERVIEW OF THE MATCH

The match commenced with the Australian Captain Hugh Weibgen opting to Bat First after winning the toss. The early dismissal of Sam Konstas showed a mere arrival of hope to the Indian Bowlers, but it did not persist for long as the opening batsman Harry Dixon and Captain Hugh Weibgen displayed a partnership of 90 runs that significantly contributed to their 253-mark target.

While chasing the target, Indian batsmen showcased an under-par performance and lost wickets swiftly, which impacted their run rate, and eventually got all-out at 174 in 43.5 overs. Mahli Beardman won the man-of-the-match accolade after taking 3 wickets by conceding only 15 runs in 7 overs. “Lots of learnings from this tournament, learned a lot from the support staff and even during the games. We will try to keep learning and getting better,” Indian Captain Uday Saharan said after the match.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR INDIAN CRICKET?

This defeat adds up to the third loss faced in a final against Australia. The previous ones being the World Cup and World Test Championship. The hope for Indian Fans remains bleak as the past ICC tournaments have always resulted in the Indian cricket team facing defeat in the final, semi-final, or even in the knockout stages. Despite this, Indian cricket fans remain dedicated and keep cheering for their nation in the upcoming matches and tournaments. Hopes continue to shine for the 2024 T20 World Cup scheduled to commence on 2 June 2024.
