INDIA Bloc Allies Urge Congress to Rethink Election Strategy

AAP leaders criticized the Congress, remarking that the key takeaway from the election defeat is the importance of avoiding overconfidence.
The Congress’s allies in the INDIA bloc have raised concerns over the party’s election strategy following its unexpected defeat in the Haryana assembly elections. They urged the Mallikarjun Kharge-led Congress to reassess its approach before the upcoming elections in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and Delhi. Despite trailing early in the vote count, the BJP made a remarkable recovery, securing 48 out of 90 seats, while Congress, expected to benefit from the anti-incumbency sentiment, managed to win only 37. AAP leaders criticized Congress, emphasizing that the key lesson from the defeat is to avoid overconfidence.
Leaders from Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena-UBT and the CPI also questioned Congress’s electoral approach. While Arvind Kejriwal highlighted the overconfidence issue, Manish Sisodia remarked that the people of Haryana were eager to oust the BJP, but Congress’s flawed strategy led to their loss. Shiv Sena-UBT leader Priyanka Chaturvedi noted that Haryana’s results won’t affect Maharashtra’s upcoming elections but advised Congress to revise its strategy.
CPI General Secretary D. Raja urged Congress to conduct a serious introspection and collaborate closely with its INDIA bloc partners for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections. This comes as Congress is engaged in seat-sharing talks with Shiv Sena-UBT and NCP-SP in Maharashtra. Uddhav Thackeray has called on Congress and the NCP-SP to announce their chief ministerial candidate before the elections. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, stressing “coalition dharma,” advised allies to discuss issues privately rather than through the media, while reiterating the importance of strengthening the alliance.
