Hyderabad: The two young women lived with their deceased mother’s body inside their home for over a week, unable to cope with her passing due to depression, according to the police. The incident came to light when they approached the authorities on January 31.

Their 45-year-old mother had passed away in her sleep on January 23. Realising she had died after noticing the absence of a pulse, breathing, and heartbeat, the daughters, aged 25 and 22, remained inside their home with the doors shut, overwhelmed by grief. As their house was relatively isolated, neighbours did not notice any foul smell, the police stated.

On the evening of January 31, the sisters visited the local MLA’s camp office, stating that they lacked the funds for their mother’s funeral. They were advised to contact the police, who later transferred the woman’s body to a state-run hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The sisters, who work as salesgirls and have studied up to the intermediate and degree levels, were abandoned by their father years ago, with his current whereabouts unknown. With no close relatives to support them, they received counselling from the authorities, the police added.
