Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness Separate After 27 Years of Marriage
After 27 years of marriage and two children, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Jackman have made the decision to divorce. “We are grateful to have had almost three decades of a lovely, loving marriage as husband and wife. We have decided to separate in order to pursue our individual growth since our journey is currently changing,” they said in a joint statement. People magazine was the first to report on their breakup.
They stated that this would be their sole comment regarding their breakup. “Their family is their top priority,” they continued, “and they will approach this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.” The Associated Press received confirmation of the claim from a couple’s spokesperson on Friday.
On the set of an Australian television program where they were both actors, the pair first connected in 1995. The more established of the two at the time was Deborra-Lee Furness. They got married in 1996 and welcomed Oscar, now 23, and Ava, now 18, as their children. In addition, Jackman became a prominent celebrity in Hollywood and on Broadway.
Years of red-carpet appearances by the couple include the Oscars, Broadway performances, and the Met Gala, including the most recent one in May. In July, they attended Wimbledon together. Jackman commemorated their 27th anniversary in April with an Instagram post. “I love you so much. Together, we created a beautiful family. Your spirit, generosity, laughter, cheekiness, courage, and loyalty are a tremendous gift to me,” he said. A supporter of adoption and orphans, particularly in her native Australia, Furness, 67, was a founder member of National Adoption Awareness Week. In multiple films, 54-year-old actor Jackman played the superhero Wolverine. He will return in “Deadpool 3,” which is now on hold owing to the actors’ strike. In addition to his role as Wolverine in the X-Men series, Jackman has appeared in the films The Greatest Showman and Les Misérables. He played The Music Man on Broadway, among other plays.
In the new Australian thriller Force of Nature: The Dry 2 from writer-director Robert Connolly, Furness starred alongside Eric Bana as Jill Bailey.
