A health ministry spokesman of Gaza stated that on Tuesday, an Israeli airstrike killed hundreds in a hospital in the Palestinian section. However, Israel denied this allegation and said that instead, a Palestinian barrage was to blame for the explosion.
The fatalities have been the highest so far in a single event in Gaza throughout the ongoing brutality, which has triggered protests in the inhabited West Bank, Amman, and Istanbul.
Mai Alkaila, Palestinian Health Minister, has accused Israel of “a massacre” at AL-Ahli al-Arabi Hospital. The attack has claimed the lives of hundreds of innocents in Gaza and happened during the 11-day bombing campaign by Israel.
However, Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister, stated that the attack was carried out by “barbaric terrorists” and that Israel’s military was innocent.
As stated by the health ministry spokesman, Ashraf Al-Qudra, earlier on Wednesday, hundreds of Palestinians were killed, and rescuers were still recovering bodies from the debris. In the early hours of the attack, a Gaza civil defense had estimated that there were 300 casualties, whereas the health ministry placed the estimate at 500.
While talking with reporters, an Israeli Military spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, said that rockets fired by the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants passed by the hospital during the strike and struck the hospital’s parking lot.
However, the Islamic Jihad group denied these allegations and said that it wasn’t involved in any incident around or in Gaza City during that time. The Islamic Jihad group, supported by Iran, was involved in the attack on Israel led by Hamas on October 7 and had fired several rockets targeting Israel.
Reports about the high number of casualties in the hospital strike ignited censure from various countries on the occasion of President Biden’s visit to Israel. Russia and the UAE urged a U.N. Security Council meeting, resulting in conflicts in the West Bank.
