On Tuesday, a 58-year-old man on a bike lost his life after being hit by a Hydrogen gas tanker near Millat Nagar on the Chavindra-Nashik road in Bhiwandi.
The accident occurred in broad daylight at around 2 p.m. The deceased, later identified as Rashid Shagir Shaikh, was commuting to Chavindra from VP Naka when a loaded Hydrogen gas tanker collided with him from behind. This caused him to collide with the tanker’s back wheel and sustain numerous head and face injuries. The locals alerted the police and rushed him to Indira Gandhi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The truck driver allegedly fled the scene and was booked for hit-and-run by the police. He was later caught by Nizampura police and identified as Gurcharan Rajnath Pal from Gujarat.
A similar accident occurred on Monday night as well, where a 35-year-old man on his motorbike, along with his friend, was hit by a truck from the opposite direction on the APJ Abdul Kalam bridge near VP Naka in Bhiwandi. They were heading towards the Bauge Firdous area from Chivandra-Nashik road, and the truck was heading towards Chavindra Road from Nadinaka when it collided with them from the opposite direction. The truck driver in this case also fled the scene and is currently on the run.
They were rushed to Indra Gandhi Memorial Hospital by the locals who also alerted the police. The 35-year-old, later identified as Aamir Ishaque Sayyed, was declared dead on arrival. However, his friend, Imam Ali Shaikh, suffered injuries and is currently out of danger.
Both accidents occurred under the jurisdiction of Bhiwandi Nizampura police station. The locals blamed the poor conditions of the road, along with the heavy vehicle movement on this route, for the accidents. The locals are concerned about the frequency of these accidents and demand immediate action to be taken. Some locals suggest that heavy vehicles should only be allowed to enter the city at night.
