High-intensity storms and heavy rains lashed France, Switzerland, and Italy this weekend, leaving seven dead and many injured. Among the dead were people aged 70 and 80 who were traveling to France’s northeastern Aube region on Saturday when a tree suddenly crushed their car due to stormy winds. One of the passengers is currently in critical care.

In Switzerland, four people have passed away, and one is still missing. Nearly three people died in Italy due to heavy rain that led to a massive landslide in the southeast region. A man was found dead near a hotel in Saas-Grun in the southwest canton of Valais. According to the police, he was swept away by a sudden surge of floodwater. Another man is still missing, according to the Valais police.

More than 100 people were evacuated from Valais, with roads closed after the Rhone and its tributaries overflowed, the civil security services stated. Emergency services are working to evacuate 300 people who had arrived for a football tournament in Peccia, while almost 70 more are being evacuated from a holiday camp in the village of Mogno.

Many people in northern Italy’s Aosta Valley shared images on the internet showing heavy rains, stormy floods, and heavily swollen river water coming down from mountain slopes.
