Hidden Camera Found in Girl’s Washroom in Andhra Pradesh, Students Demand Justice

In SR Gudlavalleru Engineering College in the Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, protests broke out on Thursday following the alleged discovery of a hidden camera in the girls’ hostel washroom. According to reports, video footage captured by a concealed camera was allegedly shared among students residing in the boys’ hostel.

The disturbing incident occurred when a group of female students stumbled upon a concealed camera in their washroom on Thursday evening. This shocking discovery led to immediate distress and concern, as reported by NDTV.

The revelation sparked a flurry of reactions, with students swiftly coming together to stage a protest that commenced at 7 p.m. and persisted until the early hours of Friday. Their resounding chants of “We want justice” echoed throughout the campus, serving as a fervent call for answers and accountability. Significant concerns and discomfort were expressed about using the washroom facilities, leading some individuals to completely avoid the area.

The spy camera incident at Gudlavalleru Engineering College is a severe breach of privacy. Former police officer V. V. Lakshmi Narayana stressed the need for new laws to regulate social media and digital platforms to prevent and swiftly punish such violations.

Allegations have surfaced against a senior female student in the final year of an engineering program for allegedly orchestrating the placement of a hidden camera in the restroom. The Krishna district police have apprehended a final-year B.Tech student and confiscated his laptop and cell phone. Reports suggest that the student was allegedly involved in selling the videos captured by the concealed camera.

Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh has initiated an inquiry into the allegations of hidden cameras. He has emphasized that strict action will be taken against those responsible for this violation. In a recent post on X, Minister Lokesh directed officials to take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in colleges in the future.

An investigation has been initiated by the Andhra Pradesh government following the events at Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Krishna district. Hundreds of students staged a protest throughout the night, demanding justice.
