Three individuals, including two pilots and an engineer, lost their lives after a helicopter crashed and caught fire in Pune’s Bavdhan area on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred around 6:45 a.m. in hilly terrain after the helicopter took off from a nearby golf course helipad. Onboard were pilots Paramjit Singh and G.K. Pillai, along with engineer Pritam Bharadwaj.
“Upon arrival, we found the helicopter wreckage scattered with a smouldering fire. We recovered three bodies and handed them over to the police. Further details are still pending,” said Chief Fire Officer Devendra Prabhakar Potphode.
Initial reports suggest the helicopter, registered as VT-EVV, belonged to Heritage Aviation and was stationed in Pune. It had been chartered by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and was en route to Mumbai. NCP chief Sunil Tatkare mentioned that he was scheduled to fly to Raigad in the helicopter.
