Haryana Women Commission Vice Chairperson and her Driver Arrested on Bribery Charges
The Anti-Corruption Bureau, Rohtak police station, has filed a case under applicable legal provisions.
Chandigarh: Haryana Women Commission Vice Chairperson Sonia Aggarwal and her driver Kulbir were arrested on Saturday by the state’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on bribery charges, according to an official statement. The ACB team apprehended Kulbir in Hisar, catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh.
The arrest followed a complaint received by the ACB, as detailed by a Bureau spokesperson. The complainant, a teacher, reported that he was married to a Haryana Police sub-inspector from Jhajjar district. He alleged that, following a family dispute, his wife filed a complaint against him with the Haryana Women Commission on November 25.
According to the complainant, after the application was filed, he was summoned multiple times by Sonia Aggarwal. During these meetings, Aggarwal’s driver, Kulbir, allegedly demanded a bribe to resolve the issue. On December 12, Aggarwal herself reportedly asked the complainant to pay ₹1 lakh to Kulbir. Two days later, Kulbir instructed the complainant to deliver the bribe in Hisar.
The ACB organized a sting operation to apprehend the suspects, deploying two teams—one to Kharkhoda (Sonipat) and another to Hisar. Kulbir was caught near Jindal Park in Hisar with the ₹1 lakh bribe, while Sonia Aggarwal was arrested from Kharkhoda.
The Bureau confirmed that further investigations are underway. A case has been registered at the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s Rohtak police station under relevant legal provisions.
