Hardik Banned for Next IPL Season Opener Due to Slow Over-Rate

Hardik Pandya, the new captain for this season’s IPL for Mumbai Indians, was banned for his slow over-rate against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede stadium yesterday. MI has already played all the matches of this season; this match was their last match of the IPL tournament 2024, which means Hardik will face a ban for one match at the beginning of the next season of IPL. Further, if by chance, Hardik moves to another team in the next season of IPL, then the ban will remain for him for one match.
This was the third time in this season of IPL that Mumbai Indians failed to maintain their over-rate. Therefore, apart from the ban of one match for Hardik, a fine of 30 Lakhs and the rest of the team’s players, 12 Lakhs or 50% of the match fees, whichever is lower, was imposed on the rest of the team.
This season of IPL was the most disastrous season of this tournament for Mumbai Indians. They have only won four matches out of 14 games, and the last match was with Lucknow Super Giants, which they also lost yesterday. They finished at the bottom of the points table.
Hardik was placed as captain of MI after Rohit Sharma’s replacement from MI’s captaincy. His performance overall in this season of IPL was quite unsatisfactory, with 216 runs at an average of 18 and a strike rate of 143. Moreover, if we look at his performance with the ball, he took 11 wickets with an economy of 10.75.
