Government Ordered Investigations on a Student’s Death While Police Await Autopsy
New Delhi: Delhi government on Tuesday initiated an inquiry into the death of a 12-year-old government school student who was allegedly thrashed by his seniors in Shastri Nagar. The government instructed the committee to submit its report on the incident within two days. The head of the school has been asked to provide a formal report by Wednesday to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter.
The victim’s family had alleged that the incident happened inside the school, contrary to what is stated by the government. “The alleged incident took place outside the school premises, as parents sought the CCTV footage that has been ascertained,” said the government’s statement. “Delhi government is actively taking essential measures, including counseling students, to foster a positive state of mind and prevent any potential unforeseen incidents,” added the statement.
The incident took place on Jan 10, and the student succumbed to his injuries during the treatment. The deceased’s father alleged that his son was assaulted by seniors in school, leading to severe leg injuries.
Police said that the autopsy of the boy was conducted by a medical board on Tuesday, “We are waiting for the post-mortem report and, based on the findings, we’ll take further legal action,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Manoj Meena.
The victim’s father has alleged negligence towards both the school and the hospital. According to the family, they took the injured boy immediately to the hospital for immediate medical attention after the incident on Jan 10, then to a clinic for further treatment, and finally back to the hospital where the boy succumbed to his injuries. The family alleges negligence of the hospital.
