In a significant move to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in India, Google has announced a strategic partnership with ElectricPe, a leading EV charging aggregation platform. This collaboration will see ElectricPe’s comprehensive data on charging stations integrated into Google Maps, enabling users to access real-time information on the availability and status of EV charging points across the country.
The new feature, which will be accessible via both Google Maps and Google Search, aims to simplify the process of locating and using EV charging stations for Indian consumers. With this integration, users can view the nearest charging points, check their operational status, and even see if they are currently available or in use.
ElectricPe, co-founded by Avinash Sharma and Raghav Rohila in May 2021, has quickly become a prominent player in India’s burgeoning EV market. The Bengaluru-based startup operates over 25,000 public chargers in the city alone, making it the largest network in Bengaluru. ElectricPe has also secured $8.29 million in funding from various investors, including Blume Ventures, to further expand its services and infrastructure.
In addition to the integration with Google Maps, ElectricPe continues to expand its reach through strategic partnerships, such as a recent collaboration with Hero Electric. This partnership focuses on setting up charging stations at key locations like apartments and commercial complexes, further ensuring that EV owners have accessible and convenient charging options.
The timing of Google’s partnership coincides with its announcement of a significant price reduction for its Maps platform services in India. Starting August 1, developers can access these services at up to 70% off the usual cost. This move follows a push from industry leaders to consider local alternatives, such as Ola Maps, and is expected to foster a more competitive and innovative environment for developers.
As India gears up to support over 5 million public charging stations by 2030, initiatives like these are crucial for meeting the growing demand and ensuring a robust infrastructure for EVs. The collaboration between Google and ElectricPe is a testament to the tech giant’s commitment to supporting sustainable transportation solutions and improving the EV user experience in India.
