In a breathtaking display of power-hitting, Australia’s star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell made history by slamming a century in just 40 balls during a Cricket World Cup match against the Netherlands in New Delhi. Maxwell’s explosive innings left cricket enthusiasts and experts alike in awe as he dismantled the Netherlands’ bowling attack.

Maxwell’s remarkable feat not only secured his place in the history books but also shattered the previous record for the fastest century in an ODI Cricket World Cup match. The previous record of 49 balls was held by South Africa’s Aiden Markram during the 2023 edition of the tournament.

Maxwell’s 40-ball century is the fourth-fastest century in ODI cricket history, with the quickest being achieved by AB de Villiers of South Africa in just 31 balls against West Indies in 2015. Additionally, Maxwell’s extraordinary performance marked the fastest century ever scored by an Australian in One Day Internationals.

In the aftermath of his record-breaking innings, Glenn Maxwell expressed his delight, stating, “It feels pretty good. I was not feeling well and wasn’t expecting much today, but I cleared my head. The situation, when Davey [David Warner] and Greeny [Marnus Labuschagne] got out, I had to rein myself in.”

Maxwell’s explosive innings featured nine boundaries and eight towering sixes, leaving the Netherlands’ bowlers helpless in the face of his onslaught. This sensational century played a pivotal role in Australia amassing a formidable total of 399 for eight in their innings.

David Warner, who has been in sublime form, also contributed significantly with a century of his own, scoring 104 off 93 balls. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne added to the run-fest, with Smith scoring 71 off 68 balls and Labuschagne making 62 off 47 balls.

Logan van Beek and Bas de Leede were among the Netherlands’ bowlers who bore the brunt of Maxwell’s fury, with van Beek picking up four wickets and de Leede taking two. However, despite the impressive bowling figures, Australia’s powerful batting lineup dominated the day, making it a memorable match for cricket fans worldwide.
