Nagpur: A long-standing feud stemming from a violent altercation last month culminated in a brutal daylight murder at Jagnade Chowk on Thursday, where gangster Nitesh Dupare was fatally stabbed by unidentified attackers. While the investigation is ongoing, police have launched a search for Yash Goswami and Vickey Satpute, based on their past conflicts with Dupare, though their involvement in the murder remains unconfirmed.
The killing caused panic among bystanders at the busy Jagnade Chowk, a location that sees heavy traffic during office hours. The attackers fled immediately after Dupare collapsed on the road with multiple stab wounds.
According to police, Dupare had been involved in a confrontation with Satpute and Goswami—his neighbours in the Gangabai Ghat area—on March 24. The clash reportedly began over verbal abuse and a dispute about blocking the lane outside their homes. During that fight, Dupare, who had four prior assault cases, stabbed Satpute. Goswami, already facing a murder charge, was also involved. At the time, a non-cognisable offence was registered against Satpute and Goswami.
Sources indicated that Dupare, allegedly a drug addict, worked as a private security guard. On Thursday, he was reportedly ambushed and repeatedly stabbed, resulting in his death. Dupare and his mother were also known for frequently visiting the Kotwali police station with what were described as baseless complaints.
Zonal DCP Mahak Swami stated that the police are actively working to identify the attackers. “Satpute and Goswami remain suspects for now, but we’re keeping all possibilities open. The preliminary motive appears to be linked to last month’s altercation, though a deeper investigation is in progress,” Swami said.
