France delivers a proposal to Beirut requesting an end to the ongoing Lebanon-Israel conflict. According to sources, France has requested Beirut to settle the disputed Lebanon-Israel border conflict. A report allegedly states that Hezbollah elite fighters have to retreat 10 kilometres (6 miles) from the border.

France aims to stop the destruction caused by the conflicts between Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel. The Gazan war and the current crisis will ruin the region.

The French written document was among the first to be delivered by Western mediations in the region. Top Lebanese officials, like Prime Minister Najib Mikati and others, received the proposal personally. French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne personally delivered the letter, as seen by four Lebanese and three French officials.

The document declares its intention to stop a ruinous situation from spiralling out of control and enter a ceasefire when the time is right. It also states that Lebanon and Israel should negotiate the disputed land border soon.

Hezbollah has formally rejected this proposal and stated that a ceasefire is possible once the war against Gaza ends. A Hezbollah politician has also backed these sentiments. U.S. Middle East envoy Amos Hochstein was also unsuccessful in negotiating a ceasefire.

The French plan was to de-escalate the matter in 10 days, with negotiations on the disputed land at the end. A French diplomatic source claims that the governments of Israel, Lebanon, and Hezbollah have received the proposal.

France and Lebanon have deep historical ties. Around 20,000 citizens and 800 military personnel reside in the area as part of a United Nations peacekeeping mission.

Sejourne stated that the French and Americans are holding unilateral peace talks and combining initiatives to reduce the destruction.

The plan suggested that the Israeli and Lebanese military cease their military actions. It also proposed that Israel would stop airstrikes against Lebanon. While non-military Palestinian forces have launched attacks from Lebanon, Hezbollah is the primary military force in the region.

The Lebanese armed forces would withdraw from the region while dismantling the military command centres. Hezbollah would also recall its elite soldiers, called Radwan, from the border. The call for withdrawing the troops 10 kilometres from the disputed land is less than the call for withdrawing troops 30 kilometres away in a 2006 UN resolution.

Lebanese officials claim that the French proposal was neither signed nor dated. Thus, it wasn’t deemed professional enough to be valid.
