A 50-year-old woman and her lover, along with two accomplices, have been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband — a retired Army personnel — and dismembering his body into six parts in Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, police said.
The woman, identified as Maya Devi from Bahadurpur, allegedly plotted the murder of her husband, Devendra Kumar, a former Border Roads Organisation (BRO) staffer, with the help of her lover Anil Yadav. Two others — Satish Yadav and a driver named Mithilesh — were also involved and have been taken into custody.
The grisly discovery began on May 10 when severed body parts were found in Khareed village. Two days later, a torso was recovered from a nearby well, but the victim’s head is still missing. Divers are currently searching the Ghaghara river, where the accused claimed to have disposed of it.
Maya Devi had initially filed a missing person report, claiming Devendra had left to pick up their daughter from Buxar railway station in Bihar and never returned. His phone had been switched off since then.
Police were able to match the remains to Devendra Kumar and, during investigation and interrogation, the suspects confessed to the murder. Anil Yadav was arrested after a police encounter, during which he was shot in the leg. All four accused remain in custody as the investigation continues.
