Meerut: Acting on a court directive, police have filed an FIR against five individuals — including the director and principal of a private college in Baghpat — for allegedly using a B.Com student’s marksheet and transfer certificate to issue a degree to someone else.
Baghpat SHO Dixit Tyagi confirmed on Sunday that the FIR was lodged under BNS Sections 344 (falsification of accounts) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), following the court’s instructions. The college has denied any wrongdoing, and an investigation is underway.
According to Priyadeep Singh, brother of the complainant, his sister had enrolled in a BCom programme at a private college affiliated with Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, for the 2012–15 session after completing her Class 12 in 2012. Despite paying all fees and receiving admit cards and roll numbers for each year, the college repeatedly delayed handing over her degree and certificates, citing administrative issues and the Covid-19 pandemic.
Singh stated that when they pushed for clarity, college authorities harassed them and removed them from the premises. Upon further inquiry, they discovered that the roll numbers issued to his sister were actually registered under the name of another student, Sohit Kumar, who had already been given the original marksheets and degree.
Following this revelation, the family approached the court, which directed the police to register a case against the college’s management, including the principal and three staff members. The family has also sought intervention from the Uttar Pradesh chief minister, urging strict action against those involved.
