In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, three family members were brutally shot dead on Thursday night in the Kaushambi area of Uttar Pradesh. The motive behind this tragic event? A heated land dispute that had simmered for far too long.

The victims have been identified as Horilal, aged 62, his daughter Brijkali, 22, and her husband Shivsagar, 26. The family’s peaceful existence was shattered when violence erupted over their disputed land.

Locals were alarmed by the triple murder, and in their rage, they set a number of homes and shops on fire. Additionally, the accused’s home was also set on fire.

Kaushambi’s Superintendent of Police (SP), Brajesh Kumar Srivastava, said they received the information about the incident around 6 a.m. on Friday. In response, a rapid response team was sent to the scene to restore order and investigate the matter.

SP Srivastava confirmed that the issue is now under control after the fire was put out. According to Srivastava, police have been sent to the location. He also said that preliminary investigations show the two families’ property dispute was the motive behind the triple homicides.

According to the police, the deceased’s family said that Horilal had property nearby at Panda Crossing. But other people were also claiming ownership of the property. On the disputed property, Horilal built a shanty and occupied it with his daughter and son-in-law, who formerly ran a Jan Sewa Kendra nearby. Later, Thursday night, the trio was shot by the person with whom Horilal was engaged in a property dispute, who then informed the family.

According to the police, teams have been organized to arrest the four suspects whose names have come up during questioning, and the bodies have been submitted for autopsy.
