In a landmark verdict, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance achieved a sweeping victory in Maharashtra, leaving the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) reeling. Simultaneously, the JMM-led alliance made history in Jharkhand with a decisive win, becoming the first ruling coalition in the state to return to power after completing a full term.
Maharashtra held single-phase assembly elections on November 20, while Jharkhand conducted two-phase polls on November 13 and 20. The Election Commission also declared results for by-elections in 48 assembly constituencies across 13 states. The BJP and its allies claimed a majority, securing key wins in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Rajasthan. Congress won both Lok Sabha seats in Wayanad (Kerala) and Nanded (Maharashtra) and seven assembly seats, including three in Karnataka. In West Bengal, the TMC swept all six assembly seats. Notably, this marked the first instance of an incumbent government completing five years and retaining power in Jharkhand.

Highlights:

  • The BJP secured 132 out of 148 seats contested in Maharashtra, with allies Shiv Sena and NCP also achieving strong strike rates.
  • All Mahayuti ministers running in Maharashtra retained their seats.
  • Following the Congress victory in the Wayanad by-election, Priyanka Gandhi now joins Sonia Gandhi (Rajya Sabha, Rajasthan) and Rahul Gandhi (Rae Bareli, Lok Sabha) in Parliament.
  • Most candidates from Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj lost their deposits, barring one constituency.
