In a concerning development, the Border Security Force (BSF) reported unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers along the International Border in the Jammu region, which continued for nearly seven hours. The firing, involving mortars and heavy machine guns, led to two non-fatal casualties, including a BSF constable and a local resident. The exchange of fire began around 8 p.m. on Thursday, lasted until 2:45 a.m. on Friday.

The BSF responded to the Pakistani aggression, and the retaliatory fire extended to Indian border posts adjacent to Arnia. Notably, some shells landed in the town of Arnia, causing minor injuries to a civilian. The situation escalated as Pakistan Rangers targeted BSF posts with heavy machine gun fire around 10:40 pm and again at 1 am, leading to intense clashes that continued until the early hours of Friday.

The BSF stated that the injured constable is in stable condition, while the extent of material damage is still being assessed. Following the intermittent exchange of fire, residents who had evacuated their homes during the conflict have begun returning to their border hamlets. This incident underscores the persistent tensions along the India-Pakistan border and the need for sustained vigilance to safeguard the region’s safety and security.
