After Ben Stokes scored 182 runs in the cricket match at the Oval, the coach of New Zealand, Gary Stead, hopes that Stokes won’t play exceptionally well in the World Cup next month. In the match, Stokes hit 182 runs in 124 balls, the highest score ever for England in a 50-over game, and England won by 181 runs.

The current champions, England, will play against the team that came in second, New Zealand, in the first match of the ODI World Cup in India. This is a repeat of the final in 2019. When asked if he was tired of seeing Ben Stokes, who was born in New Zealand, perform so well in batting, Coach Stead said he hoped his bowlers had already faced the best of him.

In the press conference after the match, Stead said, “Ben Stokes played a fantastic game, the best for England. It was really enjoyable to watch. I’m okay with Ben Stokes. I prefer him to score well now rather than on October 5.”

Coach Gary Stead wasn’t concerned about New Zealand’s inconsistent performance as the World Cup got closer. New Zealand suffered a big loss in the ODI series, their second one, after losing by 79 runs in Southampton. This happened after they won the first match of the series by eight wickets.

Despite Ben Stokes playing exceptionally well in the match on Wednesday, New Zealand’s fast bowler Trent Boult has been performing well since he came back to play. In that match, he took five wickets for 51 runs, which included getting Jonny Bairstow out without scoring and Joe Root for just four runs in the third over. This left England in a tough spot at 13 runs for the loss of two wickets, but then Stokes and opener David Malan (who scored 96 runs) built a strong partnership of 199 runs.
