In a stylish performance, England overcame the European champions, Italy, by a score of 3-1 at Wembley, securing their spot at next year’s European Championship in the latest round of qualifiers. On Tuesday, England, led by manager Gareth Southgate, emerged from behind to clinch the top spot in Group C.

Italy initially took the lead with a goal from Gianluca Scamacca, but England rallied with two goals from their all-time leading scorer, Harry Kane, including one from the penalty spot, and an additional goal from Marcus Rashford. This defeat leaves Italy in a precarious third place.

Meanwhile, Ukraine managed to secure the second spot in the group by defeating Malta 3-1, even after Paul Mbong put the hosts ahead in the 12th minute. Ukraine turned the tide with an own goal and a penalty before adding a third goal toward the end of the match, courtesy of Mykhailo Mudryk.

Ukraine will wrap up their qualifying campaign next month with a home game against Italy, which will be played at a neutral venue due to the ongoing conflict with Russia.

As for Hungary, their chance to secure a spot at the Euro 2024 finals was put on hold as they played to a 2-2 draw against Lithuania. Hungary, who had previously won five out of six encounters with Lithuania, found themselves trailing by two goals in Kaunas. However, they made a commendable comeback, with captain Dominik Szoboszlai’s 67th-minute penalty and a late header by Barnabas Varga.

Despite Hungary’s efforts to find a winner, they will have to wait until next month for a chance to claim a place at Euro 2024. They currently maintain a one-point lead in the group, with Serbia in second place after a 3-1 victory over Montenegro in Belgrade, thanks to a brace from Aleksandar Mitrovic.

In Group H, both Denmark and Slovenia secured away victories, putting them on the brink of qualification.
