A video depicting a disturbing incident on a train in Maharashtra’s Nashik district has been circulating widely on social media. The footage shows an elderly man being assaulted by fellow passengers, allegedly due to suspicion that he was carrying beef. This incident occurred near Igatpuri on the Dhule Express. AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel shared the video, criticizing the government and police for not acting against the perpetrators. The incident has sparked strong reactions and condemnation from various quarters.
According to a video recording, a group of individuals surrounded the elderly man and proceeded to threaten and physically assault him. Despite the man’s pleas, the group continued their assault. Additionally, the elderly man can be heard stating that the meat in question was goat meat, not beef.
The GRP said the elderly man, Haji Ashraf Munyar, was allegedly beaten up by his co-passengers while traveling to his daughter’s house in Kalyan. The people involved in the assault have been identified, but no case has been registered yet. An official mentioned that they had taken cognizance of the video, identified the victim and some of the attackers, and a probe is ongoing.
The reported altercation occurred earlier this week, as stated by the Government Railway Police (GRP) on Saturday. The Thane GRP has filed a First Information Report (FIR) against more than five passengers. The altercation began with a dispute over a seat.
Following the widespread circulation of the video, the Government Railway Police (GRP) reached out to the elderly individual. Initially, the victim was hesitant to report the incident to the authorities.
The official stated that they have thoroughly reviewed the video footage of the incident and have successfully identified the victim who was targeted in the attack. Furthermore, they have also managed to establish the identities of some of the individuals who were involved in carrying out the assault. Currently, a comprehensive investigation into the matter is actively ongoing.
