In the Imphal West district of Manipur, a series of drone attacks occurred over two consecutive days, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving several others injured. Expressing his condemnation, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh described the attacks as “acts of terrorism” and strongly denounced such “cowardly acts” on Tuesday.

A high-level committee was constituted by Manipur police to probe the drone bomb attack in the state’s Koutruk village on Sunday. The committee has been assigned to critically examine and study the drones deployed by these militants, including the collection of all relevant evidence, specifications of the drones used, and how to effectively counter such drones, people familiar with the matter said.

CM Biren Singh stated that the dropping of bombs on innocent civilians and security forces using drones is an act of terrorism. He strongly condemns this incident as a cowardly act. The Manipur state government is taking this unprovoked assault very seriously and is prepared to respond with necessary measures to combat such terrorism against the indigenous population. These actions will not be tolerated.

Singh reiterated his opposition to all forms of violence and emphasized the collective resolve of the people of Manipur to stand together against hatred, division, and separatism.

Singh’s statement follows a recent tragic event in which two individuals, including a woman, lost their lives and several others sustained injuries during an armed attack carried out by Kuki groups using drones in the Koutruk area on Sunday.

Koutruk, a village inhabited by the Meitei people, is located in the Imphal West district, near the border with the predominantly Kuki-Zomi-inhabited Kangpokpi district. It has sadly been heavily impacted by the ongoing conflict, with frequent reports of gunfire. Just this Monday, three innocent civilians sustained injuries in a drone bomb attack at Senjam Chirang Maning Leikai in the Imphal West district.
