Actor and director Farhan Akhtar has unveiled an announcement teaser for his highly anticipated upcoming film, “Don 3,” but with a significant alteration. The role of Don, previously portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan, has now been taken over by actor Ranveer Singh, as confirmed in the teaser. The teaser also solidifies the film’s release in the year 2025. The banner on Instagram succinctly stated, “A New Era Begins. #Don3 @ranveersingh @faroutakhtar.”
Prior to the teaser’s release, speculations surrounding Shah Rukh Khan’s potential replacement in the forthcoming sequel were validated, thereby confirming this decision. On Tuesday, Farhan Akhtar shared a post across his social media platforms, affirming the introduction of a “new interpretation” of Don, now embodied by a new actor.
This choice has sparked a diversity of opinions, with some lauding Singh’s suitability for the role of Don as a commendable alternative to Khan. However, others dissent, viewing the replacement as a misstep that has led to a certain amount of criticism directed at the team’s decision.
One user expressed, ‘Ranveer Singh is the best replacement for SRK and can justify the character, but Don without SRK is like Mission Impossible without Tom Cruise.’ Another comment stated, ‘It’s okay to reboot the franchise, but using the title Don 3 shows that you makers are misusing SRK’s stardom; SRK will always remain the iconic Don.’
Additional speculations revolve around the potential involvement of Kiara Advani as the lead heroine in the film. This speculation gained traction as Advani swiftly reacted to the teaser by liking it and subsequently visited Excel Entertainment’s office, which is owned by Farhan Akhtar.
As it stands, “Don 3” is scheduled for release in 2025, with filming purportedly commencing in 2024.
