Diwali Rush Triggers a Stampede at Bandra Railway Station in Mumbai, Leaving 9 Injured

A stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra railway station on Sunday morning left at least nine people injured amid a rush to board a train, according to a civic official. The incident occurred at 5:56 a.m. on platform one at Bandra Terminus as passengers crowded to board train 22921, the Bandra-Gorakhpur Express, PTI reported, quoting a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official. All injured individuals were taken to Bhabha Hospital. The heavy Diwali travel rush reportedly contributed to the incident.
The injured have been identified as Shabhir Abdul Rehman (40), Parmeshwar Sukhdar Gupta (28), Ravindra Harihar Chuma (30), Ramsevak Ravindra Prasad Prajapati (29), Sanjay Tilakram Kangay (27), Divyanshu Yogendra Yadav (18), Mohammad Shareef Shaikh (25), Indrajith Sahani (19), and Noor Mohammad Shaikh (18).
Videos of the incident, which circulated widely on social media, show hundreds of passengers frantically attempting to board the train. Scenes of blood on the floor, and Railway Police personnel and passengers assisting the injured on stretchers were captured. Another video that went viral showed a Railway Police officer carrying an injured passenger on his shoulder.
