Dinesh Phadnis, widely recognized for his role as Fredericks in the popular show CID, passed away on December 5. The news left fans in mourning as they remembered the beloved actor who had been an integral part of the entertainment industry.
Dinesh Phadnis had been unwell for the last three days and was undergoing treatment at Tunga Hospital in Mumbai.
His co-actor, Dayanand Shetty, who played Daya on the show, confirmed the news of his death. He told the media that “Dinesh breathed his last at 12:08 a.m.” Earlier, it had been reported that Dinesh had suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday, following which he was admitted to the hospital. Later, Shetty said it was not a cardiac arrest but liver damage. Actor Aditya Srivastava, who played Inspector Abhijeet on the show, said, “We know that he had liver issues, and it had an impact on the other organs. He was really unwell for two to three days. He couldn’t survive.”
Dinesh began his acting journey in 1997; however, he became a household name after he landed the role of Fredericks on Sony TV’s show CID. The show aired in 1998 and ran for about twenty years. He had also appeared on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Adalat, Aahat, and acted in movies such as Super 30 and Sarfarosh. He was also a writer for C.I.D. but was most fondly recognized as Fredericks from the show. His role as the hilarious officer on this show was widely loved by the audience. In an interview, Dinesh once stated, “The show earlier had no humor at all. So I was chosen to be the comic relief. And I must say that I have received a great response from the masses.”
The actor’s funeral took place at his residence in Mumbai at 10:30 a.m. It was reported that the entire cast of CID visited Dinesh’s home to pay their last respects. This was confirmed by Dayanand Shetty as he shared, ‘I am at his residence right now. His last rites will be conducted today at the Daulat Nagar crematorium. Almost everyone from the CID is present right now.’
Fans flooded social media with messages in memory of their beloved actor. Phadnis’s co-stars from CID also posted messages and their old photos from the sets in his remembrance.
