Meerut: A missing pistol case took an unexpected turn when a grocery delivery boy, mistaking it for a toy, unknowingly kept Constable Neeraj Kumar’s government-issued weapon. Neeraj lost the pistol in a road accident near IIMT under the Ganga Nagar police station while heading home on the night of January 30.
According to SP (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra, Neeraj allegedly collided with an animal and fell, losing his pistol along with ten live cartridges. He regained consciousness at a private hospital and realised the weapon was missing, triggering an extensive search. Despite reviewing CCTV footage and inspecting multiple vehicles, the pistol remained untraceable.
SSP Dr. Vipin Tada announced a reward of ₹11,000 for its recovery, and an FIR was lodged at Bhawanpur police station. Neeraj was later suspended for negligence in handling the firearm. The delivery boy, who found the pistol by the roadside, said, “After reading about it in a local newspaper and realising it belonged to a constable, I immediately handed it over to SSP Meerut on Monday.”
