Delhi School of Journalism, University of Delhi Hosts Inspirational Lecture on Time Management

New Delhi, August 21, 2025: In a thought-provoking guest lecture, Shri Subhash C. Sood, a renowned start-up project consultant and soft skills trainer with over a decade of experience in public relations and communication, emphasized that cellphones are the biggest cause of time wastage in today’s fast-paced world. Delivering the lecture on “Life Skills: Importance of Time Management for Professional Growth” under the weekly lecture series, Shri Sood shared valuable insights on prioritizing tasks, managing time effectively, and achieving professional growth.

As a seasoned expert who has worked with prominent organizations like NTPC, NHPC, and Indian Oil, and has expertise in media relations and personal brand-building campaigns, Shri Sood’s lecture was particularly relevant for Media and Journalism students. His achievements, including PRSI Leadership Awards and PRSI National Award, make him an authority on effective time management and productivity.

In the lecture, Shri Sood stressed the importance of time management in today’s competitive world, particularly in the field of Media and Journalism, where news cycles move rapidly, and stories need to be researched, written, and published within tight timelines. “Time is the most crucial part of our life, and to succeed, effective time management is paramount,” he said.

Dr. Sanjay Verma, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of Delhi School of Journalism, in his presidential address, highlighted the significance of the lecture series, stating, “These lectures are an integral part of our students’ curriculum, designed to enhance their skills and knowledge. We invite experts from various fields to share their expertise and provide our students with a holistic learning experience.”

Shri Sood shared practical tips on managing time, including categorizing tasks into four quadrants: more important-less urgent, more urgent-less important, not important-but urgent, and not urgent-but important. He also cautioned against multitasking, a practice he once advocated for, but now believes is counterproductive. “Complete your work within the set time frame with balance, and take breaks to recharge,” he advised.

Using examples from ancient epics like Mahabharat and Ramayan, Shri Sood illustrated the importance of engaging storytelling and focused work intervals. He emphasised the need to set boundaries between work and leisure time, prioritize tasks, and learn to say “no” politely when necessary.

In his concluding remarks, Shri Sood emphasized the importance of living in the present and managing time effectively, saying, “Be mindful of your tasks, but don’t lose track of time.”

Dr. Sanjay Verma felicitated Shri Sood with a Delhi University Pataka, while Dr. Vikas Singh, Assistant Professor, DSJ, delivered the vote of thanks. The lecture saw active participation from faculty members and students, with some students sharing their feedback and experiences on time management.

The event concluded with a group photo session, leaving a lasting impression on the audience about the importance of effective time management in achieving professional growth.
