New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal will today file his nomination for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, to be held on February 5, 2025.

Announcing his plans in a X (formerly Twitter) post, Kejriwal said, “Today I am going to file my nomination. Many of my mothers and sisters from all over Delhi will accompany me to bless me. Before filing my nomination, I will go to Valmiki Temple and Hanuman Temple to seek the Lord’s blessings.”

Arvind Kejriwal is contesting from the New Delhi constituency and will face BJP candidate Parvesh Verma and Congress candidate Sandeep Dixit.

Key election details:

The Delhi Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on February 5, with the counting of votes taking place on February 8. The last date for filing nominations is January 17, followed by counting votes on January 18 and withdrawal of nominations on January 20.

As the election date approaches, the political battle between the AAP and the BJP has intensified. On Tuesday, Kejriwal accused the Congress and the BJP of having a secret alliance and called it a “jugalbandhi.” In an Instagram post, he said, “I just said a line about Rahul Gandhi, and the BJP is responding. See how many problems the BJP is facing. Maybe this Delhi election is between the Congress and the BJP.” Revealing the conspiracy that has been going on: “This has been going on behind the scenes for years now.”

Reacting to Kejriwal’s comments, BJP leader Amit Malviya slammed Kejriwal and said, “Worry about the country later; save your Delhi seat now.”

The AAP has announced its candidates for all 70 assembly seats, while the BJP has announced candidates for 59 seats. The Congress party, which ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years till 2013, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections, failing to win a single seat. In contrast, the AAP dominated the 2020 elections, winning 62 of the 70 seats, while the BJP bagged the remaining eight. As the last nomination date approaches and election activities gather momentum, all eyes are on the crucial Delhi Assembly elections.
