Dehradun: A patwari stationed in Dehradun’s Kalsi area reportedly swallowed four ₹500 notes after being caught by the state vigilance team while allegedly accepting a bribe from a local resident on Monday.
Vigilance officials stated that a complaint had been filed, accusing Patwari Ghulam Haider of demanding ₹2,000 in bribes to issue domicile certificates for two relatives of the complainant.
“A trap was set based on the complaint,” said a vigilance officer. “The complainant’s relative visited the Kalsi tehsil office with the marked cash as planned, which Haider accepted. Shortly after, vigilance officers apprehended him, but he attempted to destroy the evidence by swallowing the money.”
State Vigilance Department Director V. Murugesan confirmed Haider’s arrest.
