Dehradun: Communal Conflict Erupts at Railway Station Over Interfaith Relationship

Violence broke out at Dehradun railway station on Thursday night as members of two communities clashed over an interfaith relationship, according to The Indian Express. The altercation involved a young couple from Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, who were at the station when members of the Hindu and Muslim communities learned of their presence and arrived to confront them.
The situation quickly escalated, with objects being thrown, stones hurled, and damage caused to parked trains. Dehradun’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ajay Singh, informed the newspaper, “As per our current information, a minor girl from Budaun came to Dehradun to meet someone. A missing person’s report had already been filed in Budaun, and the police alerted the Government Railway Police (GRP) based on the girl’s location.”
Local police responded to the communal unrest, deploying heavy forces in and around the station. SSP Ajay Singh personally arrived to control the situation, while police teams patrolled the area to maintain order. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify those involved in the violence.
SSP Singh addressed the crowd at the station, assuring them the matter would be handled and urging them to disperse. Senior police officials also confirmed that a full investigation would be conducted, and that those responsible for the clash would be held accountable.
