New Delhi: A brazen robbery took place in broad daylight in Delhi’s Chandni Chowk area when unidentified assailants opened fire and looted approximately Rs 35 lakh from a textile office.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia, a PCR call was received at the Lahori Gate police station at around 2:30 p.m. regarding the robbery incident. Upon reaching the spot, officers found the glass door of the office shattered.

The robbery occurred at the office of trader Vicky Jain, 40, when two men entered the premises under the pretext of business. One of the men fired at the door, while a third accomplice waited downstairs. The duo held Jain at gunpoint and demanded cash from his employees, firing another round when they refused.

“The assailants broke open the door and asked my employees to hand over all the cash. When they refused, the assailants fired another round. They then fled with the bag containing money. All of it was over in just two minutes,” Jain said.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched an investigation into the robbery. Multiple teams have been formed to probe the matter and arrest the culprits. CCTV footage from the area is being scanned, and local informers have been activated to develop leads.

Local shop owners and traders have demanded strict action and enhanced security in the area, which is a bustling commercial hub of the national capital. “Such incidents are becoming common in the national capital. We want police to increase security in the area and take strict action against the accused,” a member of the market association said.
