On October 21, a Delhi man fell victim to a scam after being invited to a date in Kaushambi, Ghaziabad, where he ended up paying ₹16,400 for a single cold drink, NDTV reported. He had received a message on WhatsApp inviting him to meet at the Kaushambi metro station, where he met a woman who suggested they go to Tiger Cafe, located on the first floor of Kaushambi Hotel. Sensing something was off, as the cafe lacked a signboard or online listing, he shared his live location and sent a message to a friend as a precaution.

Just as he was about to leave, he was presented with a ₹16,400 bill for the cold drink ordered by the woman. When he protested the exorbitant price, he was forcibly held and asked to pay ₹50,000. Fortunately, his friend, aware of the situation, contacted the police, leading to the discovery of a dating scam gang comprising five women and three men, NDTV reported. The gang, including four women from Delhi active on dating apps, would lure men to Tiger Cafe and then charge them inflated prices for food and drinks, holding them until they paid.

The police rescued the scammed man and registered an FIR based on his complaint. All eight accused individuals were arrested. “Further action is being taken,” confirmed Swatantra Singh, ACP Indirapuram, NDTV reported.
