Cyrus Broacha Defends Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia in India’s Got Latent Controversy

Comedian Cyrus Broacha is the latest prominent figure from India’s comedy industry to defend Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia amid the India’s Got Latent controversy. Speaking at an ABP News event on Friday, Cyrus criticised the treatment of the two, comparing it to that of common criminals.
On stage, Cyrus remarked, “In India, two words have been overused—’Parampara’ and ‘Sanskriti.’ Your tradition, my tradition, and your morality, my morality, can be different… How many of you have consumed porn? Okay, let’s put it this way, how many of you have not consumed porn? When all the crimes are available on the internet, then how bad is this?”
The comedian denounced the legal action against Samay and Ranveer, calling it excessive. “This is a roast show. People talk like this. It is a copy of Tony Hinchcliffe’s show Kill Tony. Many people will know it. I don’t think they should be treated like common criminals or have their careers stopped,” he said.
India’s Got Latent is a comedy show created by Samay Raina. In a recent episode, guest Ranveer Allahbadia made a joke about parents having sex, sparking widespread backlash. Multiple FIRs were filed against them and other panellists, leading Samay to delete all show episodes from YouTube. The Supreme Court also reprimanded Ranveer for his statements and seized his passport as the case remains under investigation.
On Friday night, Samay posted a cryptic message on his channel for ‘Members Only,’ featuring a heart emoji followed by a hug emoji—often symbolising solidarity or support. The post, exclusive to paid subscribers, contained no accompanying video.
