The local courts in Islamabad, Pakistan, have denied the nine pleas made by Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who requested bail extensions. These petitions were in response to the First Information Reports (FIRs) filed against him due to his participation in violent protests. This ruling comes after the judge declared that the bail cannot be extended per the Supreme Court’s verdict. This development was covered by Dawn.
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad dismissed three bail appeals on Tuesday, while Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Mohammad Sohail denied six bail appeals made by Imran Khan.
At both the Khanna and Barakahu Police stations, a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
According to Geo News, the judge stated that an extension of Imran Khan’s bail will not be allowed per the Supreme Court’s order.
The imprisoned PTI politician was charged at six different police stations in the capital, including Karachi Company, Ramna, Kohsar, Tarnool, and the secretariat.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Mohammad Sohail, who stated that it would be better for the former Prime Minister, expelled from power in a parliamentary vote the previous year, to actively engage in the investigations related to these instances.
Nonetheless, ADSJ Sohail has granted Bushra Bibi’s provisional release in a case involving the alleged fake acceptance of Toshkhana gifts until September 7, according to Dawn.
Following the arrest of the PTI head in a corruption case on May 9th of this year, there were violent rallies during which party members targeted defense and military sites across the country.
Numerous PTI members, including leaders and workers, were apprehended in connection with the alleged disruptions. Authorities blamed the previous Prime Minister for orchestrating the violent riots.
As a result of his conviction, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) determined that he is unable to hold any public office for a term of five years.
