Indian Overseas Congress head Sam Pitroda has sparked controversy once again, just days after his comments about an ‘inheritance tax’ caused a stir. In a podcast, Pitroda remarked that people in India’s East look like Chinese and those in the South like Africans. These statements quickly drew heavy criticism, prompting a response from senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, who labeled Pitroda’s analogies as “most unfortunate and unacceptable.” In response, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, “PM Modi plays full toss on these useless issues. I challenge him to play full toss on employment, inflation, and atrocities on women, only then will I believe that yes, someone has played.”
The Prime Minister also directed remarks at Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, questioning if they would accept Pitroda’s statements. “I want to ask the Congress Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Telangana, can they accept such opinions?” he said. Additionally, he commented that the Congress party believes people from the western part of India resemble Arabs. “I want to ask the ‘fake Shiv Sena chief’, remember Balasaheb Thackeray…will the people of Maharashtra accept it?…Congress is now making racist statements,” he added, addressing Uddhav Thackeray and his party, Shiv Sena.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi expressed her disagreement with Pitroda’s comments, stating, “I do not agree with his (Sam Pitroda) statement.” She pointed out that Pitroda is a member of the manifesto committee and a Congress star campaigner, but questioned his relevance to India, saying, “He lives abroad. It’s unfortunate to make his issues the country’s issues… on one side it’s the issues of the people and on the other side, what Sam Pitroda is saying from America.” She also clarified the party’s stance: “We have nothing to do with that, neither it’s an issue, nor would this country want to react to what he says…”
Similarly, the Aam Aadmi Party, also part of the INDIA alliance, distanced itself from Pitroda’s comments. It made clear that none of its leaders support Pitroda’s remarks, saying, “As far as the remark of Sam Pitroda is concerned, none of the leaders of the INDIA alliance support that.”
