Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding Bihar’s Chief Minister and Janata Dal (U) leader Nitish Kumar’s recent remarks on birth control, the party’s national president, Rajiv Ranjan Singh (commonly known as Lalan Singh), defended the comments on Saturday. Singh clarified that the comments were focused on marriage leading to children to continue the family “lineage.”
Lalan Singh spoke to the media in response to the widespread outrage and criticism from political parties and women’s rights activists over the controversial statements made by the chief minister. He stated, “What objectionable statement has he given? Everyone knows that one marries off their children to carry forward their lineage. So the CM had also said the same. What is the problem with this? Only those who do not get anything, look for such controversies.”
Earlier in the week, Nitish Kumar had issued an apology for his remarks, which had sparked a public outcry. Kumar’s comments in the Bihar assembly had discussed the role of women’s education in population control, with some finding his comments offensive and vulgar. In his apology, Kumar emphasized the importance of education for population control and women’s empowerment.
The controversy and debates surrounding Nitish Kumar’s remarks have led to a broader discussion about the role of education and women’s rights in population control in Bihar.
