Right-wing groups have allegedly warned that Muslim families will not be permitted to settle in the predominantly Hindu area under any circumstances. The Bharatiya Colony area, under the jurisdiction of the Nai Mandi police station in Muzaffarnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, remained tense on Tuesday after a Muslim man purchased a house in the neighborhood. Right-wing groups have allegedly issued warnings that Muslim families will not be allowed to settle in the predominantly Hindu locality under any circumstances.
Tensions heightened when Hindu organizations claimed that open prayers were conducted by dozens of people and alleged that an organization named Awam-e-Hind was operating from the house. In response to the uproar, the homeowner at the center of the controversy is reportedly considering selling the property. The owner, Nadeem, acquired the property in an open bank auction, after which several groups asserted that there was “no need for Muslim residents in the Hindu locality.”
These groups further alleged that plans were underway to establish a madrasa on the premises, prompting them to stage a protest and demand the family’s eviction. Muzaffarnagar police stated that the incident is under investigation, and security forces have been deployed to maintain order. “An investigation is ongoing. There were allegations regarding people offering prayers in the open without permission, etc. We are probing the matter and monitoring the situation. Currently, there is no law and order issue in the area,” said Rupali Rao, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nai Mandi, Muzaffarnagar.
